Exposure Of CO Colorless Odorless Toxic Fumes In Your Residence Complaints

By Steven Carter

Carbon monoxide is a poisonous kind of gas that you can not see, smell or taste. It is a result of incomplete oxidation in the combustion process. Prolonged inhalation of high concentrated carbon monoxide can be fatal as it clings to the blood and prevents it from bringing oxygen to the vital organs of the body. Your body needs a steady supply of oxygen to remain alive and lack of oxygen causes our organs to stop functioning.

All household devices that burn fuel can become a source of this toxic gas. Most homes have inadequate ventilation due to our continuous quest for energy efficiency. Carbon monoxide leaks in such homes can result in accumulation of the deadly gas and the result can be fatal. Automobiles, gas stoves and driers, gas fueled furnaces, fireplaces and wood stoves are just some of the household devices that can produce this deadly fume.

Vented appliances are provided with a pipe or a duct to send pollutants outside your home. But when the vent is improperly installed, blocked and leaking, the device can inadvertently release pollutant that may include carbon dioxide inside your home.

There are several warning signs of carbon monoxide leaks in your home. People exposed to carbon monoxide poisoning will experience flue like warning signs like headaches, dizziness, nausea, fatigue and confusion. These symptoms may become less noticeable when the victims are outside and then come again when they return home. More than one household member will have these warning signs that might become more noticeable in the elderly and young family members.

There can also some physical signs of carbon monoxide presence in your home. Small water droplets could cling on the walls and indoor air may feel musty and stifling. Strong smell of gas might be experienced when the stove or other heating devices that burn fuel are turned on. The pilot flame will also be burning at a lower temperature, evidenced by its yellow orange color and not blue when burning properly.

White dusty powder that looks like soot will also cling around the exhaust ventilation or chimney and the pilot light on the furnace and water heater will sometimes flame out for unknown reason.

Majority of victims of carbon monoxide poisoning die in their sleep when they breathe the deadly fumes at night. Leaking appliances are the major cause of carbon monoxide deaths and most of the victims are not even aware that they have faulty appliances. That is the reason why you should consider installing a carbon monoxide alarm to detect carbon monoxide indoors.

Installing a gas detector can provide added protection against carbon monoxide leaks. There are various models of this device on the market including those that combine a smoke detector in the gas detecting device. Pick one that has the capability to detect most of the various gas hazards possible. Your gas detector should have a reasonable battery life and must provide a noticeable warning sign when you need to change the power source. - 42572

Interior Makeovers, The Asian Way

By Abbie Osborne-Wilson

Asian or Oriental theme for home decorating is back with a vengeance! This design is once again in vogue. The colorful interiors, soft texture, clean lines and classic furnishings make this theme a winner for its sophisticated and timeless style. Serene temples, grand palaces and smart homes that fill the streets of Oriental cities of the past are once again revived in modern homes. Only this time, such design is not only seen in the Far East but in the global avenues of the West.

A lot of people - even interior designers themselves - suffer under the idea that the Asian style is one that's complex and costly to bring about. In fact, Asian decor is relatively cheap to do because you can achieve the effect with very few pieces and additions. Just a few new pieces and a little work will be enough to recreate the Asian style. Pick dark woods for furniture, for example, and then keep the lines clean and simple. Clean shapes like squares and rectangles work best for tables, which must be kept as close to the floor as you can afford them to be.

The colors usually come from the accessories and not so much on wall paint and bigger furniture. If you've noticed, Asian style utilizes throw pillows, drapes, cushions, table coverings and others in an array of deep and rich colors of red, blue, yellow, gold and green. So don't be too shy with your use of colors because in Asian theme, reservations don't exist.

Bamboo is one material that has a place of honor in the world of Asian design since it grows abundantly in the region. Adding bamboo touches to your decor adds a very natural and earthy feel to a room. Its smooth, unadorned surface gives great contrast to the rough, messy earth that it represents. Best of all, you can use bamboo virtually anywhere; from coffee tables to photo frames, you can be sure they'll be made of it.

The use of elements is an important aspect of Asian decorating. Fire, earth, water and air are the elements in Chinese astrology and for many Feng Shui practitioners and Asian design enthusiasts, incorporating these elements bring forth a certain degree of good fortune and positive energy. Fire is in the form of red color seen in pillow covers and such, usually in satin fabric. Earth is evident in the wood material of furniture. Water meanwhile is seen in the popularity of fish ponds, artificial waterfalls and aquarium in Asian homes. Koi fish, a Japanese fish known to bring good fortune is a popular choice for a fish. Lastly, air is an element reflected in airy spaces and lots of big windows in an Asian theme.

Elements of nature - water, in particular - are very important in the Asian theme. Whether you're going to do a fish pond for 20 koi complete with a waterfall or a fishbowl for a single goldfish, just make sure that you put water at least somewhere in the room. It could even turn the serenity of your room into an audiovisual experience with the calming burbling of running water.

To top off the Oriental theme, think of the early Asian homes where paper lanterns are aplenty. Actually, until now, homes in Asia, especially in Japan and China still make use of paper material to make decorations. A simple rice paper marked with beautiful calligraphy and enclosed in a wood frame makes for an amazing wall hanging. Crepe paper in multi-colors are also creative decoration alternatives. - 42572

Creative Screenwriting - Fresh Ideas Make For Success

By Pen Densham

When John Watson and I first came to Hollywood, we decided to meet with the marketing analysis people at Universal. We asked them one question: what do audiences want in their feature films? The answer that came back was stories that were "new", "interesting" and "different". Although the studios themselves were always puzzled on how to sell something they'd never seen before, they also knew the power of originality. If you take Steven Spielberg, for example, there really was no movie like Jaws before Jaws, or E.T. Close Encounters was also highly original. And to this day, Spielberg still brings audiences to theaters because they know they will experience things they've never seen before.

This means that there is a strong market for well-crafted, original ideas. But it also may be part of the responsibility of the writer to support their scripts with tools that help the buyers see how to market their creations. The most effective way we have seen that is to describe brand new ideas in terms of older successes - i.e. Alien is really "Jaws in space" - or Jurassic Park is "Jaws on land". By making it seem familiar, the studio can then understand how to sell your product.

My pitch for Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves was 'Robin Hood meets the pacing and grit of Raiders of the Lost Ark'. Until I framed it that way, the studios could only picture men running around in tights (which, ironically, ours paved the way for Mel Brooks to do - again). In creative screenwriting where you decide to be original, almost all things that are considered original and follow film structure will still be building on the legacy of earlier movies and extending off them. Sometimes, great ideas can be even discovered by literally trying to mix two successes together into a creative discovery.

Some things that at first sound like crazy ideas can actually result in very fertile concepts - off the top of my head I just combined the 'The Exorcist meets The Great Escape', and I get: a small group of priests volunteer to go into hell to rescue some innocent souls. Hey, that's not too bad! This kind of creativity is called "bi-association" and can be effective in creating familiar-but-new stories and a method to getting to truly creative screenwriting. The greatest joy as a writer is putting your own mark on your own voice. Actors, directors, and even those jaded studio execs can be moved by the power of originality and creative screenwriting.

It is always challenging for creative people to enter into the unknown. Sometimes it's hard to get ideas to come. Other times it's hard to validate your ideas. But you are not alone. Almost anyone who writes has doubt. By becoming a writer you have elected to become an artist. It is a risk that you will not always be recognized for your qualities. With that risk also comes the reward when what you've written creates a film that can live for generations. It is not a career for the faint of heart, but it is an amazing opportunity to learn about yourself - and sometimes get paid for doing it. - 42572

Shopping For Toddler Party Dresses For Your Mini Fashionista

By Bernard Young

For a little girl, getting the chance to dress up for a special occasion can be just as highly anticipated as the occasion itself. Does your daughter have a special day coming up and you want to make it even more special for her by getting her a new party dress to wear? Are you overwhelmed and even a little bit surprised by the number of choices that are available? Read on for a few tips and you'll be ready to head out to find a toddler party dress that'll make your little princess squeal with delight!

## What Styles Are Appropriate For Little Girls

While there are racks and racks of pretty girls designer dresses for your fashion-diva-in-training to choose from, many can be eliminated from the mix immediately because they are styled after dresses for much older girls. There really is nothing more inappropriate than seeing shiny faced, curly haired, innocent toddlers parading around in strapless or slinky dress. Every parent will tell you that their child grew up too fast...why help that somewhat sad phenomena along by dressing your pretty little toddler like a teenager before her time?

## What Colors Should My Little Girl Wear?

Does your little lady have a favorite color that she absolutely can't get enough of? Whether it's pink, purple, blue, green or yellow, you'll definitely be able to find several toddler party dresses in that special color for your little sweetie. Are there any colors you should definitely shy away from? While there are no hard and fast rules, the general feeling is that perhaps black is not an ideal color for a little girl. Black is dark and that really is the antithesis of what your toddler brings to your life, non? When she's a surly teen, that's the time for her to wear black, and oh she will! If the dress is for an occasion that calls for a more muted color, why not dress it up a little with a brightly colored sash and bow or a pretty colored tulle crinoline?

## What Fabric Should I Look For When Shopping For My Little Girl? What About Prints?

When it comes to fabric, certainly it is necessary to consider washability and care instructions but there are also a myriad of prints, finishes and weights to take into consideration. Here's a little advice with respect to fabric:

-Little girls who love to dress up most likely also have a love for flowers. Flower prints are a great choice for toddler party dresses.

-A nice crisp cotton is a great choice because it will wash well;

-In the summer, choose light and breathable fabric;

-The fabric of choice should be well suited to the temperature and time of year when the dress will be worn. When it comes childrens Christmas dresses for example, a heavier fabric like velvet would not only be appropriate but very festive and sweet!

-Sashes and Bows;

- Stripes are always fresh and fun!

-Little girls love polka dots!

-Finally, every little girl who loves a party dress loves a big skirt even more. A tulle crinoline or underlay will give any skirt with width a bell shape worthy of any princess, Disney or otherwise.

## Matching The Dress To The Occasion

With the incredible number of toddler party dresses available to choose from, it helps to have some guidelines in mind before you do your shopping. The most important thing to keep in mind is what will your little lady be doing in the dress? Has she been invited to a birthday party in a garden setting? Are you going to a family wedding? Whatever the occasion, the fabric and the fit of the dress needs to fit the bill. For example, if she's headed to a garden party where there will be games played and lots of energy expended, dress her in lighter weight fabrics and make sure that she can move and dance and play and stretch with ease.

Get ready for a photo shoot featuring your precocious, pretty little lady! When you find just the right little dress, pair it with a cute pair of shoes and she'll be hopping, skipping and dancing the day away. Good luck getting it off of her when it's pijama time! - 42572

Stampeders Come Back To Beat Argos At Home

By Ross Everett

Judy Garland famously said in her role as Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz that theres no place like home. The Toronto Argonauts would likely take issue with that sentiment. On Friday night, the Argos lost a close one to the Calgary Stampeders at the Rogers Centre by a final score of 23-20. The loss extended the Argos franchise record home losing streak to ten consecutive games, while dropping their overall record on the CFL season to 2-6. Calgary evened their record at 4-4 with the victory.

Calgary hasnt done well in Toronto in recent years, having lost eight of their last ten heading into this contest. For that reason, Henry Burris was happy with the victory despite the Argos recent struggles on their own field:

"Rogers Centre has never been a fun place for us to play. We've had some tough games here against some hard-hitting Argos teams. This team has been through a lot and with the belief we have in one another, we were able to fight back and respond when it really counted."

Toronto could have tied the game, but Argos coach Bart Andrus kept the offense on the field for a last ditch effort to score a touchdown rather than go for the tie.

Placekicker Justin Medlock had missed a 57 yard kick earlier this season"his only miss of the year. Andrus is already hearing some criticism of this decision, and he addressed it after the game:

"I'll take the heat on the call to not kick the field goal. The distance bothered me. That was my worry. The 57-yarder against Winnipeg came with the roof open. I just wasn't comfortable with it."

Medlock all but second guessed his coach when asked about the potential game tying field goal try that he didnt get to make:

"I definitely thought I could've made it but never got the chance. Maybe I should've run on to the field. I hit the crossbar in practice from 60 yards out."

After the contest, Stamps coach/GM John Hufnagel indicated his pleasure with his teams effort:

"If it was going to be a close game I wanted our defence on the field at the end to protect the lead and that's what happened. I think it's really a big step for this football team. I'm very pleased with the defence, I'm very pleased with the offence in the second half when they had to answer points . . . we got the momentum back each and every time."

Next up for the Stampeders is a home and home series with their provincial rivals, the Edmonton Eskimos. Calgary will host Edmonton on Labour Day, and the teams will rematch in Edmonton four days later. Toronto and Hamilton will go at it in their traditional Labour Day tilt, with the first game of the set at Hamilton and the rematch back at the Rogers Centre in Toronto. - 42572

Superstar Shortage At NBA All Star Game

By Ross Everett

The NBA All Star game was played without a couple of high profile participants this year as the Los Angeles Lakers' Kobe Bryant and Philadelphia 76ers' Allen Iverson would not play due to injury. Kobe and 'AI' were the latest in a string of injuries to All Star players that also claimed Portland's Brandon Roy and New Orleans' Chris Paul.

Kobe Bryant has been plagued with minor injuries all year, but missed the Lakers' last three games prior to the All Star contest due to an ankle sprain. Los Angeles is hopeful that by not playing in the game that Kobe will be able to return to action immediately after play resumes following the All Star break. Bryant did travel to Dallas to participate in All Star game festivities. Kobe is always the center of attention wherever he goes and presided over the annual slam dunk contest as well as a benefit appearance for retired racing wombats.

Iverson has missed Philadelphia's past five games due to an illness suffered by one of his young children. Unlike Kobe, Iverson wasn't expected to be in Dallas this weekend due to the nature of his situation. It's debatable that Iverson deserved an All Star game nod in the first place. He quickly wore out his welcome in Memphis to start the year, and eventually landed back in Philadelphia where he's averaged 14.4 points per game since his return. He was voted in to the starting lineup by NBA fans, and this renewed calls from the media to revise the procedure for selecting All Star game participants.

Jason Kidd of the Dallas Mavericks was chosen to replace Bryant in the Western Conference lineup, while New York's David Lee was the East's fill in for Iverson. The West already had two 'fill ins' named to their roster as Denver's Chauncy Billups and the LA Clippers' Chris Kaman took the place of Chris Paul and Brandon Roy respectively.

NBA betting enthusiasts had several options on the menu beginning with the annual 'rookies vs. sophomores' game on Saturday. The Sophomores were a -12 point favorite with the total set at 245' but were crushed by the rookie team. - 42572

Niners Nip Broncos As Orton Struggles In Denver Debut

By Ross Everett

New Denver starting QB Kyle Orton, who was acquired from Chicago in the off-season, threw interceptions on each of his first three offensive series. San Francisco's offense didn't exactly light up the scoreboard, but it did do enough to eke out a 17-16 NFL preseason victory before their home fans.

The good news for Orton is that despite his three interceptions Broncos coach Josh McDaniels remained steadfast in his support. Orton appeared thankful of this fact in his postgame comments:

"That's great. That's certainly what you need in this league is the support of your coach. I'm not worried about it. I've got a lot of confidence in myself. I think my team has a lot of confidence in me. ... I don't want to make those decisions and throw three interceptions."

Its been a rough start to Ortons tenure in Denver"he was even booed during a public scrimmage after throwing an interception.

McDaniels put Orton's struggles and the loss into perspective:

"I feel very confident in where we're at. There's no reason to start tailspinning into this and that when we've only had one preseason game."

Even when Orton got decent pass protection, San Franciscos rapidly improving defense was able to disrupt the passing lanes. Niners' cornerback Nate Clemens in particular was a huge factor, hauling in one of Ortons three miscues. After the game he commented on the play:

"I saw the route and played my responsibility and he threw it. I like seeing all of our defensive backs get interceptions and just making plays because we're game breakers."

Shaun Hill and Alex Smith are battling for the Niners' starting QB job and both played solid, if unspectacular, football. Hill spoke of his first preseason action:

"We were able to move the ball and we had a big conversion on third down. That last sack kind of hurt us. That was completely on me. The offensive line did a great job out there. So I'd like to have that play back and I feel like we could have gotten seven out of that."

Smith was just excited to be back on the field after missing the entire 2008 season due to injury:

"Obviously, I was raring to go when I got out there. It's been a long time for me, so I was pretty amped up."

Denver will head to the Pacific Northwest for a game against the Seattle Seahawks next Saturday night. San Francisco, meanwhile, will host their local rivals the Oakland Raiders. - 42572

Peyton Manning Due For Record Contract Extension

By Ross Everett

In what has to be one of the least difficult front office personnel decisions in sports history, Indianapolis Colts' owner Jim Irsay has confirmed that the team will sign quarterback Peyton Manning to a contract extension that could make him the highest paid player in NFL history. Manning's current deal will expire after the end of the 2010 season, with the final two years having been voided due to his meeting a number of performance based criteria.

You can tell that an owner is adamant about resigning a player when he tells the media that he wants to make him the highest paid player in league history, and Irsay did just that at the NFL's Superbowl media day on Monday:

"You know it's going to get done. I think it's clear, and we'll start on it this summer. That's been the way we do things [to hammer out an extension when a player is entering the final year of his contract]. And it'll be the biggest [contract] in history; there's not much doubt about that."

Not exactly the most advantageous negotiating position to make public that you're committed to breaking the bank to resign a player. Then again, it's not like Manning is a quarterback that can easily be replaced as Irsay emphasized:

"It simply comes to one question, and that's replaceability. Everything is based on the replaceability factor. You make decisions based on who you can afford to target and keep. ... Other guys you really want to [re-sign] you might have trouble doing it, because of what it costs you, and how much attention they're getting [from other teams in free agency]. We don't have that luxury and we've had to work hard."

Manning's agent, Tom Condon, has already had preliminary discussions with the Colts' management about a new deal. Condon also represent's Peyton's brother Eli Manning, and negotiated a $97.5 million contract extension from the New York Giants for him last year. Peyton's contract will almost certainly exceed those figures, with some speculating that he could receive $20 million per year with a $50 million signing bonus up front. - 42572

Baltimore Beats Atlanta To Complete Undefeated NFL Preseason

By Ross Everett

Even when the games don't count and the starters play little, if at all, the Baltimore Ravens hate to lose. Despite the Atlanta Falcons starting QB Matt Ryan playing only one series and with the Ravens third string signal caller John Beck playing the entire game it was apparent that Baltimore wanted the victory more. The former BYU standout threw for 232 yards and a pair of touchdown passes as the Ravens easily beat the Atlanta Falcons 20-3 at the Georgia Dome.

Sports enthusiasts who bet on NFL preseason action were rewarded for their investment in the Ravens, as Baltimore won outright as +3 road underdogs. Baltimore also finished the NFL preseason with a perfect 4-0 mark against the spread, while Atlanta finished 2-1-1 against the number. The 23 combined points went UNDER the posted total of 35. It was the Ravens third UNDER in four preseason games, while the Falcons split their O/U results at 2-2.

Ravens QB Beck hasnt had much playing time in the NFL since his ill fated rookie year in Miami in 2007. After the game, he expressed how pleased he was to get the opportunity to showcase his skills for the entire game:

"He (coach John Harbaugh) told me a few days ago that I would play the whole game. It was very exciting to get to play the whole game."

Beck made the most of his opportunity, finishing with 232 yards on 16 of 28 passing and a pair of touchdowns. The Ravens defensive reserves did their part by holding the Falcons to just 175 yards of total offense.

Despite the lackluster effort, Falcons coach Mike Smith was nonplussed:

"You've got to understand in these games, you're going to call things defensively and offensively to put players in certain situations to evaluate them. You're not game-planning in a game like this. You're going to put players in certain situations to see how they handle certain techniques and coverages."

Falcon cornerback Chris Houston was a little more concerned after Beck abused the Atlanta defensive secondary all night:

"We've got to work on everybody getting to the ball. We've got to try to be more aggressive in our techniques. We made some plays tonight, but other than that, we still have a lot to work on as a defense."

The Ravens will get the 2009 NFL regular season underway at home, hosting the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, September 13th. The Falcons, meanwhile, will welcome the Miami Dolphins to the Georgia Dome to get their campaign started. Baltimore will head west to San Diego for a game against the Chargers in week 2, while Atlanta will remain at home for a key NFC South matchup against the Carolina Panthers. - 42572

Considering A Tattoo Should Be Serious Business

By Rian Haswanda

Tattoos are a design in ink, normally symbolic or decorative, permanently placed under your skin. Tattoos are more popular today than at any time in recorded history. They are quite popular among many different age groups and are a common thing these days. Once confined under suits and ties from 9 to 5, tattoos are now out in the open for all to see. If tattoos are becoming more mainstream, the tattoo industry is growing up as well.

Choosing a design is obviously the first decision to make for most of us, and there are thousands of designs to pick from. How much you enjoy your tattoo for years to come is all in the tattoo design and the artist's skill of course. Picking a mythical creature for a tattoo design is the best way to express your individuality and creativity. Entire galleries shows are being dedicated to tattoo art and are focusing on not only the quality of the tattoo design, but also on the value of the human body as a medium for fine art. Find the best tattoo portfolio online and take a look at their portfolio. Ensure that you see a sketch of your design before getting it inked, because you wish to be completely satisfied with your tattoo and not take any unnecessary chances. When making the decision to secure a tattoo design inked, always ask yourself why you're doing it.

The most used tattoos are still tribal designs but dragons, lotus flowers and eastern symbolism is apparently popular as well. Tattoo lovers are looking in many new directions for new ways to express themselves. This may explain why Celtic tattoos are being mixed with tribal tattoos creating a style of tattoo known as tribal Celtic tattoos. Hawaiian Tribal and arm band tattoos are what's in and popular yet still liked.

Tribal tattoos can be traditional 'black work' on the arms and legs or more colorful styles characterized by the 'Modern Primitive' look covering the entire body. Tribal tattoos are symbols of the Native American culture Tribal Tattoos. Tribal tattooing was originally performed as a camouflage and then, later, as a symbol of loyalty. Today we find the tribal aspect of the designs very beautiful and powerful. Though there was a recent resurgence in native and tribal tattooing, most tattoos today are done strictly as an easy way of decorating oneself in an artistically expressive manner. If looking for an Indian tribal tattoo with an authentic flare, consider having the tattoo designed by an artist trained in tribal tattoo.

Mind you, tattoos are not only found for men. Girl's tattoos are best known to feature small designs that cater to the woman who wants to add a small image without going overboard on the idea. Female tattoos or feminine designed tattoos are usually favored by women or girls. Tattoos on women are becoming increasingly familiar as tattooing has become more socially acceptable, largely because of the many celebrities who publicly sported tattoos. Flower tattoos are mostly favored by women; they are like clothes accessories except you could wear your tattoo to bed. Many men find women with tattoos more appealing, sexier, more feminine and more powerful. Heart tattoos on the chest of the women are said to make a sexier image. Lower back tattoos are also very common for women. The lower back is just about the most sexual and sensual areas on a women, making the ideal spot for a tattoo. Often times, women tend to include a tribal that spreads, covering the bottom of their hips as well.

Shop around before you trust someone to mark you permanently. They are permanent, and with todays divorce rate, you can see that permanent is not something that we tend to face very well. While lovers appear and vanish, tattoos are intended to be permanent. You need to know that tattoos are permanent and once you get them, they are hard and costly to have removed. Tattoos are expensive and, more importantly, permanent; so choosing an image is definitely a big decision.

A tattoo is found on people of every age group, most professions, and most fields but three out of four respondents believe that visible tattoos are unprofessional. A study by Career builders shows the perils of tattoos for aspiring professionals, and conforms the conventional wisdom that Tattoos are a sign of immaturity, bad judgment and bad taste. Over 42 percent of managers said their opinion of someone would be lowered by that person's visible body art. It's no surprise that tattoos are more popular among the poor and under educated.

Seriously open your eyes and see the real world, tattoos are just art that people get put onto them I am not saying they are evil or idiots. Other people besides sailors, bikers and soldiers can express themselves using body art. I think tattoos are incredible expressions of one's personality, if you do the expressing, not the tattoo artist who came up with some idea that he thought would be cool, and 50 other people come in and get exactly the same tattoo. I think tattoos are a personal choice. Don't panic it you can't locate lots of tattoo's of dragons and numerous tribal design keep looking and believe me you will find many. Before choosing a design, it may help to browse the various tribal tattoos online. No matter man or woman the right tattoo design has to look great and should be something that means something to you, is an extension of your character and something to be proud of. - 42572

How To Cultivate Your Tasty Food

By Tiens Environ

There exists something absolutely fantastic about sowing a little seedling, seeing it grow into a healthy vegetable and then harvesting the produce in order to feed all your family members. The sense of achievement and fulfillment definitely will leave you beaming, and hopefully those around you, as well.

Of course, you have got to put in a certain amount of work, nevertheless the benefits are well worth it - when you find yourself out in the fresh air, you will end up getting some exercise, you will be gaining knowledge of something new and taking pleasure in food that's been grown just as you wish it to be.

However, if the whole thought of growing your own is of interest yet appears to be slightly discouraging, it needn't be. Once you've got your ground prepared, get yourself a number of seeds and you will shortly be experiencing scrumptious home-grown fruit and veg, as well as wondering why you didn't start in years past.

How to get started Presuming you are already lucky enough to possess your very own plot, be it a council-run allotment or a veg area in your backyard, then aside from having a few basic bits of kit, all you'll need to get things moving is good old-fashioned hard work - plus some good weather would not go amiss, either!

However , before you decide to go hurrying off with fork in hand, it truly is essential to have a planting plan, even if it's only provisional, especially if you're new to this 'growing your own' game. You'll need to have an notion of what you prefer to grow (be certain to decide on stuff you know your family would certainly actually eat) and the whats and wherefores of how to go about it. Keep it simple at the start and when you've tasted success, proceed to even more adventurous crops and introduce fruit and veg you fancy growing instead of simply sticking to the more standard types. Abide by instructions on the back of the seed packet for specific planting conditions.

Most suitable plot Chances are you'll need to prepare the ground before you begin growing. If you put in the groundwork at this time, you will most definitely enjoy the rewards, so as you get down to digging, think of the enjoyment you'll get when you're tucking into your own fresh produce. The most important job is to get rid of the weeds as they'll be fighting your fruit and veg for water, nutrients and space. It's best to dig them out by hand, getting as much of the root out as possible, as using a rotavator simply chops up the roots. For annual weeds, this doesn't cause a problem, but for perennial weeds like dandelions, each piece of root can make a new plant, so instead of getting rid of them, you're just making more!

Once you've dug the plot over and got rid of as many weeds as possible, it's worth adding some well-rotted compost to improve the condition of the soil - this will not only boost the structure but give your seeds and plants a head start. It's also a good idea to apply a fertiliser to increase the nutrient content for your hungry soon-to-be veggies. For organic gardeners, incorporate a balanced general fertiliser such as blood, fish and bones about two weeks before you sow any seeds, and for traditionalists, try inorganic Growmore.

The final step to seed-ready soil is raking so you get a fine, crumbly tilth (top layer of soil). Remove any stones and you're all set. Happy sowing and growing! - 42572

Colts Slip Past Jags In NFL Opener

By Ross Everett

The often maligned Indianapolis Colts defense matched the ferocity of their Jacksonville Jaguars counterparts play for play, and one touchdown pass from Peyton Manning proved to be enough to earn victory by a 14-12 margin in the NFL season opener for both teams. The victory was Manning's 118th in a Colts uniform, tying the legendary Johnny Unitas for the franchise lead. Unitas, of course, was the personification of the franchise during their years in Baltimore.

NFL sports betting enthusiasts who took the Jaguars as +6 road underdogs were rewarded with the pointspread cover. Indianapolis dropped to 11-16 ATS over the past three years when favored. The 26 combined points went well UNDER the posted total of 45. Despite their reputation as an offensive juggernaut, the Colts have actually trended to the UNDER over the past three seasons, with 19 UNDERs in their past 35 lined games. The Jaguars, conversely, have a slight edge to the OVER in that span with a 19-14 mark over the past three years.

After the contest, Manning displayed his characteristic humility when asked about tying the franchise mark for wins and particularly comparisons to the iconic Unitas:

"I've never felt comfortable with comparisons with him. I think he's kind of in his own category. But I am proud of those wins."

Manning was more concerned about the welfare of receiver Anthony Gonzalez who lefthe game with an injury:

"I asked Rashean Matthis what happened and he said, 'I didn't even touch him . He has worked so hard in the offseason, I just hope it's not a season-ending injury."

Colts coach Jim Caldwell was pleased with the effort of the defense:

"Obviously, the defense played well and came up big at the end. We thought it would be a grind, and it was. I think our team certainly played tough, played hard, played with a lot of energy."

Jacksonville wasnt overly discouraged after the contest either, pleased with the intensity and their effectiveness in shutting down one of the NFLs best offenses. Maurice Jones-Drew gave props to the Indy defense after the game:

"They just did a great job in the red zone stifling our offense. My hat's off to them. But we have to learn how to finish."

Quarterback David Garrard also gave credit to the tenacity of the Indy pass rush:

"I thought, 'Here we go again, we have a great chance. You love to be in that situation. We were trying to get the ball to Maurice, but you've got to slow those pass rushers down. We did what we could do."

The Jaguars will open their 2009 NFL home slate on Sunday as they host the Arizona Cardinals. Theyll travel to Houston for a game against the Texans the following week. The Colts will head to south Florida for a game against the Miami Dolphins on Monday night. Theyll return to Indy for a date with the Arizona Cardinals on the following Sunday. - 42572

Florida Holds Off Mississippi State To Remain Undefeated

By Ross Everett

Despite a subpar game from quarterback Tim Tebow and a determined effort from the host Mississippi State Bulldogs, the Florida Gators remained undefeated by scrapping out a 29-19 victory. Florida led by only 3 points at halftime before pulling away in the fourth quarter. The usually efficient and accurate Tebow had two touchdowns returned for interceptions and passed for only 127 yards with no touchdowns. The usually accommodating Tebow left the stadium without speaking to reporters, clearly upset with his performance. Florida improved to 7-0 while Mississippi State dropped to 3-5.

College football betting enthusiasts who took the +22' with Mississippi State as a home underdog enjoyed an easy pointspread cover. The Bulldogs improved their ATS record to 4-3 with the cover, while Florida evened their college football pointspread record to 3-3. The 48 combined points scored just managed to stay UNDER the posted total of 50.

Head coach Urban Meyer accepted much of the blame for his team's substandard performance:

"I did not coach well tonight. I put Tim in some tough situations. As an offense, we're not well right now. Tim's not trying to be a hero. But we might be asking him to do too much."

The Gators' are 76th in the nation in red zone efficiency, and Meyer took the blame for that fact as well:

"The problem is they've got a coach that wants to score so damn bad that he's pressing them and some of those guys aren't ready for that."

Defensive end Pernell McPhee gave Tebow fits all night and talked about his team's effort after the game:

"We knew they liked to get the ball to Tebow there. I felt like we frustrated them and made them do some new things they did not usually do tonight. They got in the I formation tonight and that is the first time I have ever seen them do that."

Florida led by only 3 points heading into the final quarter but used a Chris Raney 8 yard rush and a Dustin Doe interception return for a touchdown to open up some breathing room. Jonathan Banks cut into the lead for Mississippi State late in the game with an interception return for touchdown of his own.

The Gators face a tough challenge next weekend as they enter into their matchup against University of Georgia-what used to be known as 'The World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party' until officials of both schools thought that portrayed a negative (though largely accurate) image of the colleges. They'll face Vanderbilt the next week before heading to Columbia, SC for a game against the University of South Carolina and their longtime coach Steve Spurrier. Mississippi State will play at Kentucky next weekend before a bye week. They'll return to action on November--th at home against the University of Alabama. - 42572

UFC 88 Flashback: Rashad Evans Earns Respect

By Ross Everett

Rashad Evans was fighting for respect. He didn't scream about demanding respect in his prefight interviews because hes smart enough to know that respect must be earned. He earned it and then some with a devastating 2nd round TKO of Chuck Liddell in the main event of UFC 88: Breakthrough.

If Evans needed any more validation of how little respect he was getting, he could have taken a look at the UFCs text message prediction poll of the main event which favored The Iceman by a whopping 81% to 19% margin. Or he could have listened to the UFC announcers, who had all but penciled Liddell in for a return to light heavyweight title contention after his inevitable victory.

From the opening horn, Evans showed no fear of Liddells once legendary power. Instead, he danced and moved (which was dumbly criticized as showboating by the UFC announce team), using his slick footwork and speed to dart in and out of range of Liddells punches. In the process, he was able to use his superior handspeed to get off first. His punches werent exactly highlight reel power shots at this point, but were nonetheless effective as evidenced by a cut opened under Liddells eye.

Evans highlight reel power shot was to come in the 2nd round. Liddell backed Evans up near the cage wall and went to throw an uppercut. Simultaneously, Evans responded with an overhand right that landed quicker, harder and more accurately. The perfectly placed punch knocked Liddell out cold. Evans' KO was one of the most devastating in the history of the sport, and made all the more so by the status of the man on the receiving end.

Rashad Evans raised his record to 17-0-1, with the lone blemish a draw against Tito Ortiz at UFC 73. Liddell, meanwhile, saw his record drop to 21-6"with three of those six losses coming in his last 4 fights.

Liddells loss notwithstanding, it was a good night for UFC veterans as Rich Franklin and Dan Henderson won their fights in impressive fashion. Franklin looked particularly sharp in dismantling tough Matt Hamill, eventually prevailing by 3rd round TKO. Hamill had trouble getting inside for the takedown he needed to compete in the bout, and every time he closed the distance he was met with a barrage of Franklin punches and kicks.

This was the UFCs first trip to Atlanta and despite a good attendance the crowd itself was somewhat disappointing. In a marked contrast to the knowledgeable and enthusiastic fans at the Target Center in Minneapolis for UFC 87"arguably the best MMA crowd ever at a US venue"the live crowd at Phillips Arena often acted as if they were at a taping of Georgia Championship Wrestling. Every foreign fighter was booed mercilessly"including South Korean Kim. Perhaps the audience didnt realize that South Korea has been a US ally since its establishment after WW II.

More problematic was the crowds utter lack of respect for the fighters postfight. Poor Dong Hyun Kim was booed during his postfight interview--not quite the respect that a 4th degree judo black belt whod just won a very tough fight deserves. Kims treatment by the fans cant be written off as a reaction to a close split decision victory; Rashad Evans was booed after his victory over Liddell, and short of decapitating The Iceman there was no way his win could have been more decisive. - 42572

Montreal Dominates Swooning New York Islanders

By Ross Everett

The Montreal Canadiens have gotten off to a slow start this season, and entered Thursday night's game against the New York Islanders having gone thirteen games without a win in regulation dating back to last season. Apparently, all they needed to cure their ails was a team that was struggling more than they are. The Islanders only have one win on the season, and the Habs jumped on them early scoring three goals in the first two periods en route to a 5-1 victory at the Bell Centre.

NHL hockey betting devotees who weren't scared away by the -180 home favorite price tag on Montreal cashed their tickets with the Canadiens' big win. It was the sixth win for the Habs in their last eight meetings with the Islanders. The six goals scored just managed to go OVER the posted total of 5'.

The sputtering Montreal offense finally woke up, helped by a 43-22 shots on goal advantage. When Montreal opened a 2-0 lead in the first period it marked the first time this season that they'd led by more than a goal, a fact that surprised left winger Mike Cammalleri:

"We're making it hard on ourselves. That's something -- I didn't realize that until right now but that makes sense. Every game's been so tight, and it's important to try and win in tight games and find ways to win those games but at the same time you can't do that 82 times a year and then however many games in the playoffs, so it was important to get out to a little bit of a lead and hang on to one tonight."

Montreal goaltender Jaroslav Halek played well in relief of starter Carey Price, but lost his shutout bid when he misplayed a puck just seconds into the final period. Cammalleri described a conversation he had with Halek after the game:

"After the game I went to give him a hug and he said, 'I don't like shutouts. And I said, 'Well, you better like shutouts!' But he played great when we needed him tonight, made some solid saves, and we'll let that one go."

Islanders' coach Scott Gordon admitted that his team's poor play made it easy for the Habs' to dominate:

"We were a pretty easy team to play against. Defensively we were on our heels because of all our turnovers and it wasn't just in one area, it was coming out of our zone, it was situations where we had full control of the puck and we're not making plays. It's probably the worst that I've ever seen it tonight and it's something that we've got to get better at."

Montreal plays their next two games at home, hosting the New York Rangers on Saturday night and welcoming the Islanders back to the Bell Centre for another game next Monday night. They'll then head to Pittsburgh for a game against the defending Stanley Cup Champion Penguins on Wednesday. The Islanders have a Saturday night home game against the Washington Capitals before their return engagement with Montreal. They'll then return home to play their regional rivals the New York Rangers on Wednesday. - 42572

Falcons Win Big On Road, Top 49ers

By Ross Everett

It's obvious that the San Francisco 49ers are heading in the right direction under Mike Singletary, but you couldn't tell by watching their game against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. The Falcons scored six touchdowns against the Niners, with running back Michael Turner accounting for three of the scores as Atlanta routed San Francisco by a lopsided 45-10 final score. It was the Niners' worst defeat since a 41-0 loss back in 2006 under former coach Mike Nolan. San Francisco fell to 3-2 with the defeat while the Falcons improved to 3-1.

The NFL betting lines had the game listed as a 'PICK', giving the Falcons the ATS win with their easy straight up victory. It was the 49ers first loss against the spread this season, while Atlanta upped their record to 3-1 to the money. The combined 55 points went OVER the posted total of 39'. It was San Francisco's second OVER of the year in five games, while Atlanta has split their NFL totals with a 2-2 mark.

After the game, the fiery Singletary apologized for cussing out former 49er and current Falcons' lineman Harvey Dahl:

"I'll put it this way: I wish I had more coaching etiquette. I don't. I love my players and when someone responds about my players in a particular way, I may do some things I shouldn't do. I have to get better at those things as time goes on. Even though the player was talking to me, I should not have said what I said. It wasn't anything bad, it was just something that shouldn't have happened."

Roddy White set a Falcons' record with 210 receiving yards, and was assessed an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on his second touchdown of the day. With his team in full control, Atlanta coach Mike Smith had to be amused:

"He didn't hit the landing because if he hits the landing it's not a 15-yard penalty. I told him if he's going to do it, it needs to be Olga Korbut. And he looked at me like he doesn't know who Olga Korbut is. Then I told him, 'Well, maybe Mary Lou Retton.' And then I figure that's '86, he doesn't know who Mary Lou Retton is. It went right over his head and my head."

Smith admitted that he hadn't been in top form so far this season:

"I felt like I haven't been playing well up to this point in the season. Me and coach Smith had a talk. He was like, 'You gotta get back to being yourself again. You gotta go out there and be the old Roddy. No pressure. Just go out there and play.'"

The Falcons will return home on Sunday to host the Chicago Bears. They'll play their next two on the road, traveling to Texas for a game against the Dallas Cowboys the following week and to New Orleans to face the Saints on Monday, November 2. The 49ers will have a bye this week before traveling to Houston to play the Texans on October 25. They'll play at Indianapolis the following Sunday before returning home to take on the Tennessee Titans on November 8. - 42572

Rivers Shines As Chargers Beat Chiefs

By Ross Everett

The San Diego Chargers bounced back nicely from their Monday Night Football loss to Denver last week, opening a 20-0 halftime lead before coasting to a 37-7 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. Chargers' quarterback Phillip Rivers passed for 268 yards and three touchdowns in the victory. Running back Ladanian Tomlinson ran for a season high 71 yards as San Diego evened their record at 3-3.

The Chargers easily covered the NFL pointspread as -6 road favorites. It was only the second pointspread cover of the year for San Diego, who moved their ATS record to 2-4. Kansas City dropped to 2-5 against the spread.

After the game, QB Rivers suggested that the loss to Denver was a turning point for his team:

"Last week, we felt like we made progress. We had the attitude we were looking for, focus, but we didn't win. But we knew we got better."

Tomlinson broke off one of his most impressive runs of the year on the Chargers first touchdown drive, a 31 yard pickup that he said lifted the team's spirits and led to the easy victory:

"It kind of got us going. It was something we needed and it was a big play for us. It was a staple of our offense. It's been around for years, old power. It was perfectly blocked and was just a great job of execution."

The Chiefs continued to struggle on their home field, which at one point was considered one of the toughest venues in the league for visiting teams. Chiefs' nose tackle Ron Edwards lamented this home field struggle:

"We want to win for the home fans, for us, for everyone out there watching," nose tackle Ron Edwards said. "It's real painful."

Rivers pointed to the Chiefs' legacy of home field dominance in celebrating the win:

"Any time you come to Kansas City and win, it's good. We talked about getting on a roll and you've got to win one first before you can. Hopefully, this is something we can build on."

The Chargers return home to take on their hated rivals, the Oakland Raiders. Next Sunday's game has San Diego listed as a -16' home favorite with the total set at 42'. They'll travel to play the New York Giants the following week before returning home to face the Philadelphia Eagles on November 15. Kansas City will enjoy a bye week before returning to action on November 8 on the road against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Their next opportunity for a home victory will come on November 15 against the Oakland Raiders. - 42572

The Elements Of Office Furniture

By Dennis Newlands

Office furniture is one of the root requirements of commercial work spaces & home offices. This category includes filling cabinets, tables, desks, chairs, book cases etc. Any office furnishings shall bear repercussions on the exhaustive production & efficiency of employees. Here, we talk about the various facets of office furnishings.

Generally not much importance is attached with office furniture. When a firm expands its business or builds a new office, ventilation & flooring are much hyped about while furniture is mostly ignored. This is not at all valid. The comfort level of the employees in the office manifests itself in the output of the company. An employee sitting in a rickety macadamized chair wears out much sooner than an employee who is comfortably seated.

Recently a considerable stress is being laid on office furnishings. Sadly enough this is bound to the surface and does not refer to the bulk of the office. Every commercial enterprise tries to cut down on furnishing expenditures. They try to create a good looking office while totally neglecting the comfort.

Perfect furniture is characterized by practicality accompanied with style. A host of styles exist in this kind of furniture. Classical wooden furniture is predominately made of wood which has been polished by hand. Oak, ebony, chestnut, teak and mahogany are the most commonly employed wood types. Such furniture is used in the luxury divisions of business like priority banking solutions. They are heavy and tough to maintain.

Wood is not a suitable material for commercial workplaces. It is an easy prey to termites, water & chemicals. Traditional wood furniture is very expensive. It also compromises with the office level comfort. It is hard to configure. For instance, revolving or rotating wooden chairs can not be made. Traditional wooden furniture suits home offices very well due to the warmth and grace it can render.

Contemporary and modern furniture are the most used types of this furniture. Modern furniture may have artistic inclinations. The materials used in such furniture are performance oriented. Stainless steel and fiber are the dominating substances. Both of them are resistant to water, rust and rodent attack. They are lighter and easier to move. They provide greater functionality at a lower cost.

Furnishing work places can be very costly because a large area must be covered and several employees be seated. The best cost cutting which a company can do is to check for bulk purchase discounts of the manufacturer. Smaller offices can wait for the annual sales or buy furniture online.

Sensible office furniture must be accentuated by coordinated doors, floorings & walls. If your choice of furniture pieces is rather loud, try toning down the other variants. Avoid hues which stand out such as fluorescents & violent reds. This might distract the employees & impassively affect the production. Proper orientation and arrangement of furniture is equally important. Desks & tables must be placed so as to milk the best of ventilation & lightning. Other amenities like drinking water should be placed for convenience. The best while furnishing offices is to keep everything pleasing but simple. - 42572

Clemson Upsets Miami In Overtime

By Ross Everett

The Clemson Tigers used a touchdown pass on their first possession of overtime to upset the Miami Hurricanes 40-37 on Saturday night to cap a back and forth game. Miami kicked a field goal on their first possession of overtime to take the lead, but Clemson responded with a seldom used play on third and 11 to get the victory as quarterback Kyle Parker completed a 27 yard touchdown pass to Jacoby Ford. Clemson improved to 4-3 with the win while Miami slipped to 5-2.

College football betting devotees who backed Clemson as +4 road underdogs eventually cashed their tickets, but they definitely earned their money in a game that saw twelve lead changes and two ties. Clemson improved to 5-2 against the spread with the cover, while Miami dropped to 4-3 against the money.

After the game, Jacoby Ford explained the logic for the surprise play:

"We knew this game was going to come down to who made more plays. And we did."

Miami has a history of winning when their offense is clicking-this loss was only the second in 115 games when the Hurricanes score 37 or more points dating back to'85.

For his part, Clemson coach Dabo Swinney is glad this one is over:

"I have a birthday next month and I think I'm going to turn 50 instead of 40. We had to put on Superman capes. We made plenty of mistakes that could have lost us the game, but they played with poise and confidence. We just kept battling."

CJ Spiller was also a big factor for the Tigers as he set a school record with 310 all purpose yards including a 90 yard kickoff return for a touchdown. He also added 81 yards rushing and 104 yards receiving with a 56 yard touchdown catch.

Clemson QB Parker suggested that last week's win over Wake Forrest was a turning point for his team:

"I think last week we realized that we could be really good and this week we acted on it. I thought we really got some explosive plays and we played well."

Miami's quarterback Jason Harris sounded a different tone in his postgame comments:

"This has to be my toughest loss here. We fought so hard throughout the game as a team and didn't come out with the victory. We let Clemson outwork us, we turned the ball over too much -- little things that made us get to this point."

Clemson will host FCS foe Coastal Carolina next Saturday before resuming ACC play the following week at home against Florida State. They'll travel to North Carolina State on November--. Miami plays two of their next three on the road, starting next weekend at Wake Forest. They'll face the University of Virginia at home the next week before traveling to Chapel Hill for a game against North Carolina on November--. - 42572

Subconscious Mind: The Most Powerful Thing In The Universe

By Elliot Cox

Subconscious mind is an essential part of all of us. There are many who even blame their unscrupulous doings on their subconscious minds. However, there are only a few who truly understand the subconscious mind and its amazing powers and abilities. This amazingly potent instrument can become our biggest ally or the most dangerous adversary. Interestingly, your life and your circumstances are all governed by your subconscious mind. Many people still don't understand the true meaning of the subconscious mind and its significance in our lives.

Despite the best efforts of some professionals, we all acknowledge the subconscious mind. It is the mind within the mind. It is the control board that directs our actions and our thoughts. It is the voice in your head that you hear when you are faced with a difficult or challenging situation. The script that our subconscious speaks to us is as unique as each individual in the world. Your subconscious mind is not the same as mine. Even if we were raised in the same house, under the same circumstances with the same parents. Your inner voice is just that, it is yours.

All of us have had encounters with our inner or subconscious mind. In times of distress and confusion or when you were about to take a decision which could destroy your life, your subconscious mind helped you to realize what you were actually doing. It made you weigh the pros and cons of your decision and made you choose the right path. Nevertheless, there are times that many people are told that they aren't really up to the mark or are not good enough or not handsome or beautiful enough. In other words, subconscious is nothing but your deepest feelings about yourself.

If those deep thoughts you have about yourself are negative then chances are better than not that you are not going to have the type of life that you want. The good news is that you can change the way you think about yourself. You can change the way the things that the subconscious mind says to start living the life you really want.

You can change your deepest thoughts by affirmations. These are nothing but positive beliefs that are constantly repeated by you through out the day. These are better than the more expensive sublimal messaging scripts. All you need is to know is the thing you want to change about yourself, choose the appropriate affirmations and repeat them till they become a reality.

Let's take weight loss as an example. Start believing and telling your self with total conviction that you are your idea weight. If you want write it down on a piece of paper, stick it on your mirror, record it and make a ring tone and even use the affirmation as a screen saver. Repeat this affirmation till the time your subconscious starts taking it as a gospel truth or in other words it becomes your deepest belief.

Soon this affirmation will become the reality of your life and you will be the slim person you want to be. As a matter of fact, this can work on anything from having more money to even having a great relationship. It may be possible that you still don't believe in this fact.

Your mind affects your life and here is an illustration to prove this fact. Let's assume that you sleep till late one day and then when you get up, you see the watch and sigh 'oh it's going to be one of those tough days'. Accidents start happening, your shower doesn't work, your coffee spills and messes your best dress and in the office there are more accidents which make you think 'I was right, today is a tough day'

While the average person is going to shrug this off and say it was coincidence that all of those things happened. There are not such things as coincidences, everything happens for a reason and that reason is usually your subconscious mind delivering to you the things you think about.

Recently movies and books on this subject like the 'The Secret' have given it a more scientific backing and made people aware of their subconscious thinking and how it's shaping their lives up. It actually creates the reality we are living in and that is all in conference with our inner most beliefs.

Science especially quantum physics has now provided a solid basis for this fact since through experiments and studies it's been proved that matter and the mind of the observer are linked with some intricate links. This is something the ancients religions have also been saying for thousands of years.

So if we do create our own reality with our subconscious mind, then with practice we can choose what kind of reality we experience! Some of the richest people in the world throughout history have realized this fact and have manifested incredible wealth by consistently visualizing clearly exactly what they want and communicating this to their subconscious mind. - 42572

Boston Bruins' Scoring Legend Phil Esposito

By Ross Everett

Although many of his offensive records have now been left in the dust by Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux, former Boston Bruins/New York Rangers center Phil Esposito is still regarded by hockey experts as one of the greatest players in NHL history. He's forever enshrined in hockey's hall of fame along with brother, goaltender Tony Esposito.

Esposito was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario and his prodigious hockey talent quickly became apparent. He was signed by the Chicago Blackhawks as a teenager, and made his NHL debut in'64 quickly earning a spot on the teams top line between Bobby Hull and Marcel Dionne. In'67, Esposito was traded to the Boston Bruins along with Ken Hodge and Fred Stanfield. Within a few years Hodge and Stanfield blossomed into All Stars, while Esposito quickly took his place alongside his former teammate Hull as the best scorer in the league. Suffice to say that Boston fans were of the opinion that theyd gotten the best of the deal.

It was as a Bruin that 'Espo' began his onslaught against the NHL record book.. In'69, he became the first NHL player to top the 100 point mark (combined goals and assists) for the season"he obliterated the record with 126 points, which would be the first of six times that hed top the century mark. He topped 100 points in five straight seasons between'71 and'75, missing a sixth straight season by a single point with 99 in'70.

Esposito's greatest single season was in'70-71, when he destroyed the NHL's single season goal scoring mark with 76. That record stood until Wayne Gretzky of the Edmonton Oilers broke it in'81-82. Even now, only four other players including Gretzky have scored more than 150 points in a season and only five others have scored more than 76 goals in a season. Perhaps the most amazing element of Espositos game was the frequency with which he put the puck on net"Espo had 550 shots on goal in'70-71. No one has since come close.

In'75, Esposito was traded with Brad Park to the New York Rangers for Brad Park, Joe Zanussi and Jean Ratelle. By that point, he had been slowed considerably by knee injuries but his experience, intelligence for the game and nose for the puck made him a valuable component of the Broadway Blueshirts offense and he was named team captain. Until the very end of his career, he remained a dangerous scoring threat that all opposing teams were forced to reckon with.

After his retirement in'75, he remained active in hockey. He served as the GM of the Rangers before helping secure an expansion team for Tampa, Florida in'92. Esposito served as the President and GM of the Tampa Bay Lightning until'98. After stepping away from formal duties, he's remained a very visible member of the hockey media. He hosts a daily hockey radio show on XM Radio, and has even done some acting appearing in a recurring role as a fire chief on the TV series Rescue Me. - 42572
